Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, has outlined key measures by the government to ease financial pressure on airlines amid rising Jet A1 fuel costs and fears of service disruption.

He announced the steps after meeting with stakeholders, including officials from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, airline operators, and oil marketers, following concerns about the sharp increase in aviation fuel prices.

Keyamo said President Bola Tinubu has approved a significant discount on certain outstanding fees owed by airlines to the government, describing the move as immediate relief to help sustain operations.

He added that the President will soon establish a special committee to review and reduce multiple taxes and levies embedded in airfares, with the aim of lowering costs for operators and passengers.

According to the minister, the interventions are designed to stabilise the aviation sector and ensure continued air transport services despite the surge in fuel prices, which operators have warned is becoming unsustainable.
