Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has described himself as a “freelance politician” amid the ongoing leadership crisis and legal uncertainty within the Peoples Democratic Party
He made the remark after a closed-door meeting with former presidential candidate Peter Obi at Ramat House in Bauchi, where both leaders held discussions seen as part of wider consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mohammed said neither the PDP nor the African Democratic Congress was in a stable position, adding that opposition politicians were currently relying on the courts while exploring political realignments and cooperation. He stressed that all discussions were centred on building a possible platform for future collaboration.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party before aligning with the ADC, said the visit aimed to promote national unity and strengthen cooperation across regions. He argued that Nigeria needed a new direction and urged stakeholders in Bauchi and the North-East to support efforts to build a more united country.
Both leaders confirmed that their talks focused on opposition cooperation, although full details were not disclosed. Mohammed had previously hosted Obi in 2025 and encouraged him to join the PDP, highlighting ongoing political engagements between the two figures.
