The Nigerian Government has approved a broad increase in peculiar allowances and welfare benefits for civil servants as part of efforts to improve earnings and boost morale across the public service.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced the measures on Friday during a briefing in Abuja, where she outlined reforms approved by the Federal Executive Council.
She said the review covers workers under both the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure, extending the benefits across multiple cadres.
According to her, the revised peculiar allowances were designed to apply across all grade levels, resulting in higher take-home pay for both junior and senior officers.

She added that several major allowances, including duty tour allowance, estacode and book allowance, had also been reviewed upward, noting that most benefits listed under the Public Service Rules were affected.
A key part of the reform is the approval of full Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) for civil servants attending authorised training programmes, even when such training takes place within their duty station.
Walson-Jack said workers in Abuja attending training in Abuja, for instance, would now qualify for full DTA.
The government also approved a new exit package for retiring workers under the Contributory Pension Scheme. Under the arrangement, retirees will receive an additional benefit equivalent to 100 per cent of their total annual emoluments, aside from their pension, effective January 1, 2026.
She said the measure is intended to guarantee dignity in retirement and ensure civil servants leave service with adequate financial support.
The Nigerian Government further confirmed the implementation of the Employee Compensation Scheme, which provides financial support for workers affected by job-related injury or death.
