The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals and recovered firearms, suspected cocaine and other items during a stop-and-search operation along the Agbarho-Warri Road.
The command said the arrests were made on July 25 by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol, describing the operation as another breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against violent crime and drug trafficking in the state.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, in a statement issued on Sunday, said officers intercepted a grey Mercedes-Benz ML SUV with registration number AAA 604 JZ during a routine patrol.
Edafe identified the arrested suspects as Omini Ezeri, 46, and Chinedum Wagbara, 42, both residents of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Police said a third occupant of the vehicle, identified as God Knows Ifreke, escaped while officers were questioning the suspects.
“During preliminary interrogation, a third occupant of the vehicle, God Knows Ifreke, suddenly took to his heels and escaped into a nearby swamp,” the statement said.
Following the escape, operatives searched the vehicle and recovered what police described as a cache of weapons, ammunition, suspected narcotics and communication devices.
“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally fabricated Beretta pistols loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition, approximately 200 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine, one walkie-talkie, one dagger, one grinder, and two sophisticated phones,” the statement said.
The command said the two suspects remain in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised their vigilance and professionalism.

He also reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain its crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
“He reaffirmed the command’s commitment towards ensuring that Delta State remains a hostile environment for criminals and all those involved in the unlawful possession of firearms and trafficking in illicit drugs,” the statement read.
The police commissioner urged residents to support security agencies by providing useful intelligence that could aid crime prevention and the arrest of suspects.
