Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has officially thrown his support behind Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
The formal endorsement took place during a high-profile meeting involving the president and key power brokers within the state’s political hierarchy.
The news was confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via a social media update on Wednesday, April 29.
The meeting featured prominent leaders of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the state’s most influential socio-political body.
The delegation was led by Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi alongside the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The president’s endorsement of Hamzat, who currently serves as the deputy governor, signals a unified front within the party’s leadership as they prepare for the upcoming electoral cycle.

This move effectively solidifies Hamzat’s position as the heir apparent to the governorship, following years of partnership with Governor Sanwo-Olu.
The APC appears to be streamlining its transition process in Lagos by securing the president’s blessings in the presence of the GAC and the sitting governor, aiming to maintain political stability and continuity in Nigeria’s economic hub.
