Kyiv was targeted by drone strikes on Tuesday morning following the expiration of a short-lived ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, according to local officials.

The air raid sirens, which sounded for the first time since Friday, signalled a return to active combat after the holiday truce lapsed.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the capital’s military administration, warned residents via Telegram that enemy UAVs were over the city and urged everyone to remain in shelters.

Regional authorities confirmed that air defence systems were active in the area to intercept the incoming drones.

The three-day pause in fighting had been brokered by US President Donald Trump to coincide with Russia’s World War II victory celebrations.

Although Trump expressed hope that the May 9–11 window would lead to a permanent resolution, the period was marred by both nations trading accusations of ceasefire violations and civilian attacks.
