Wike-backed PDP Commences Screening

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulraman Mohammed-led National Working Committee and supported by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commenced the screening of presidential, governorship, and national assembly aspirants ahead of the 2027 general election.

The faction, in a statement issued by its National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, on behalf of the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, in Abuja on Thursday.

Nnorom disclosed that the screening of governorship aspirants was scheduled for noon on Thursday at the PDP national secretariat annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, while that of presidential aspirants was fixed for 2 pm at the same venue.

The presidential aspirants’ screening committee is chaired by former Governor of Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo as Secretary.

Other members of the committee are: ⁠Alhaji Abba Isawa, ⁠Sen. George Sekibo, ⁠Sodipo Semiu, Mrs Chinelo Chidebelu,⁠ Nasiru Mohammed, ⁠Sen. Zainab Kure and ⁠Lindsey Sora.

Nnorom was named the Chairman of the governorship aspirants’ screening committee, with former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, serving as Secretary. G

The rival faction of the party, led by Tanimu Turaki and supported by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, had, on Wednesday, extended the deadline for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 general elections.

The interim NWC, in a public notice jointly signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and the National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Shan, extended the purchase of forms for all offices to May 15.
