Real Madrid secured a 1-0 victory over Sevilla FC on Sunday in La Liga’s penultimate round, with Vinícius Júnior scoring the decisive goal.
Despite the win, Madrid will finish the season without a major trophy for the second consecutive year.
Kylian Mbappé started the match after expressing frustration during the week over comments allegedly made by coach Álvaro Arbeloa following Madrid’s game against Real Oviedo.
Mbappé helped create the winning goal by controlling a cross before setting up Vinícius, who powered home in Andalusia.

The Brazilian later returned the favour, but Mbappé missed a clear opportunity by firing over the bar. Franco Mastantuono also struck the post for Madrid, while another Mbappé effort was ruled out for offside.
“Today it was Vini’s turn to score, but Kylian did a great job,” Arbeloa said after the match.
Elsewhere, Atlético Madrid defeated Girona FC 1-0 in what proved to be Antoine Griezmann’s final appearance at the Metropolitano Stadium before his move to Orlando City SC.
Griezmann, playing his 500th match for Atlético, assisted Ademola Lookman for the winning goal.
“I always have to say goodbye to people I love,” Atlético captain Koke said in tribute to Griezmann.
At the bottom of the table, Levante UD boosted their survival hopes with a crucial 2-0 win over RCD Mallorca, leaving Mallorca deep in relegation trouble.
Girona’s defeat left them 18th, while Mallorca dropped to 19th.
RCD Espanyol secured safety with a 2-1 win over CA Osasuna, and Deportivo Alavés also guaranteed survival by beating already relegated Oviedo 1-0.
Elche CF strengthened their survival bid with a narrow win over Getafe CF and will face Girona on the final day in a decisive relegation clash.
Meanwhile, Valencia CF edged Real Sociedad 4-3 in a thrilling encounter, while Celta Vigo secured European football next season after drawing 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao.
