Five teenage students drowned in northern Vietnam on Monday after one of them was swept away by a strong river current and four others entered the water in an attempted rescue, state media reported.
The incident occurred in Phu Tho province after school hours, when the students aged 13 and 14 reportedly went swimming after preparing for an exam.

Authorities said all five bodies were later recovered from the Lo River by evening.
In a separate incident on Saturday, four primary and lower secondary school students also drowned in Dak Lak province after being caught in a river current while swimming.
Vietnam’s health ministry estimates that around 2,000 children aged between five and 15 die from drowning each year in the country.
