The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Nigerian President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the party’s presidential primaries after polling over 10 million votes.

Tinubu secured a landslide victory over his opponent, Stanley Osifo, in the primary election with 10,999,160 votes.  Osifo, on the other hand, got 16,503 votes.

The announcement was made on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja after APC members from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) participated in the voting exercise.

Party officials said the results were collated from all 36 states before the final declaration was made at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

The president is expected to receive his certificate of return and the APC presidential flag on Sunday, formally confirming him as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.

Tinubu was first elected in 2023, succeeding former President Muhammadu Buhari, who served two four-year terms. The APC had pegged its presidential nomination form at N100 million.

He is expected to face candidates from opposition parties in the 2027 general election, with political activities expected to intensify as parties prepare for their primaries.

The APC currently controls 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states, up from 21 in 2023, following a wave of defections to the party.

In his first term, Tinubu implemented economic reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and attracting foreign investment. However, many Nigerians have reported increased economic hardship following the reforms.

According to the World Bank, inflation rose to about 30% in 2024 and remained elevated in early 2026, while fuel prices increased significantly over the period.
