Football Club AC Milan has dismissed head coach Massimiliano Allegri alongside several senior club executives following the club’s failure to qualify for next season’s  Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League.

The Serie A giants confirmed the sweeping changes on Monday after ending the season outside Europe’s elite competition, capped by a 2-1 home defeat to Cagliari on Sunday.

Allegri, who returned to the club last May more than a decade after his first spell, was part of a broader leadership overhaul triggered by what the club described as a disappointing campaign.

Ownership group RedBird Capital said the decision followed an assessment that the club had fallen short of its target of returning to Europe’s top competition and building a stronger foundation for domestic success.

The club said it was moving into a new phase of restructuring aimed at resetting football operations and improving long-term competitiveness.

As part of the shake-up, AC Milan also ended the tenures of chief executive Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.

The ownership group expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials, saying their contributions were recognised during their time at the club.

Further appointments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as the club prepares for the next season.

“After the disappointment of last year, the mandate ownership set for the club was to return to the Champions League and to establish a foundation for winning consistently at the top of Serie A,” AC Milan’s owners RedBird capital said.

“It is now time for change and a comprehensive reorganisation of football operations.

“Effective immediately, we are parting ways with CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, head coach Massimiliano Allegri and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.

“We thank each one for their hard work and dedication to AC Milan during their respective tenures.

“Further announcements regarding the next appointments will be made in due course – with the goal to be ready and well prepared for the next season,” they added.
