The eldest son of the late former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Mohammed Abacha, has lost the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Kano State to Muhammad Dalhatu.

The Chairman of the PDP Kano State Governorship Primary Election Committee, Umar Hadejia, announced the results on Monday, saying the exercise was conducted peacefully and in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

Hadejia said that the election to select the party’s flagbearer for the incoming governorship election in Kano State was transparent and problem-free. Based on the results, Abacha polled 749 votes, while Dalhatu secured 2,233 votes to emerge as the winner of the contest. Hadejia said,

He also stated that the committee commended all aspirants, delegates, party officials, security agencies, and stakeholders for their maturity, cooperation, and commitment during the exercise.

Recall that in 2023, Abacha contested the party’s ticket but lost to Sadiq Aminu Wali following a legal battle between parallel factions of the party at the time. He was the governorship candidate of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) in the 2019 Kano State governorship election.
