Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has called for legal action against social media activist and online commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Onanuga, in a post shared on X, reacted to a video reportedly from VDM.

In the video, an allegedly doctored audio clip of the president is heard.

The social commentator claimed that a leaked audio attributed to Tinubu and shared by a former senator of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) suggested that the president had asked the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, to step down for him in the election.

“They’ve been trying to take me out of the position, but it’s not possible. And mind you, I am winning this election. I don’t care what’s happening. Nigeria deserves it because when I was running as president, they didn’t want me. Now, all of a sudden, they want me to rescue them from insecurity,” the voice in the audio clip said.

“As of last week, I called Peter Obi to step down for me, but he refused.  I am not begging him again. I will make sure the insecurity affects people in the South East more. listen. I am going to borrow more and more money from the World Bank. Try to understand me. I won’t like to stop this insecurity because if I do, how will our party raise funds for elections? Think about it. Even the funds I’ve taken are to fund them.”

Onanuga, in a post shared on X on Wednesday, slammed Otse, accusing him of disseminating a purported audio clip and spreading misinformation.

“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform,” Onanuga wrote.

Otse is known for his outspoken criticism of public officials and institutions.”
