President Bola Tinubu is more of a democrat than his leading opposition rivals, a presidential spokesperson has said, as he launched a scathing attack on opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election.
Daniel Bwala, in a lengthy post on X, criticised former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Nigerian Democratic Congress’s Peter Obi and activist Omoyele Sowore, while defending Tinubu’s commitment to internal democracy.
Bwala accused Obi, Atiku and Sowore of lacking democratic credentials and offering “no clear alternative path” for Nigeria.

“President Tinubu is more a democrat than them all,” Bwala wrote on Thursday.

Bwala noted that Tinubu, as a sitting president, “could have had the option of first refusal” and that the ruling All Progressives Congress could have simply adopted a consensus candidate.

“But when a member of our party said he too wants to run, a primary was initiated so he will not be stifled. Now who is a democrat? You tell me,” he said.

What all these opposition aspirants are doing everyday is to simply make noise about our government without offering a clear alternative path.

“Taking advantage of any misfortune that happens to Nigerians as a talking points, calling us with all sorts of names without making a good case for their aspirations. Talk is cheap”

“He added that “When you see these people wanting to take power from President Tinubu and constantly attacking his life, politics and policies, you would be forced to shake your head in disbelief.”

Bwala accused Sowore of undemocratic practices within his own party.

“Sowore who opens a political party and appoints himself as the national chairman in order to secure presidential ticket by way of adoption. Then when elections time approaches, he hands the chairmanship, after losing election he collects back the chairmanship till the next election. Is he a democrat?” Bwala asked.

The presidential aide also took aim at Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

“To Peter Obi who jumps from one party to another in search of a guaranteed ticket without primaries. Meanwhile his deceived foot soldiers are subjected to primaries in the same party where he secures his ticket by adoption,” Bwala said.

“The foot soldiers and rabble rousers have all lost their primaries because politics is more than activism that they are good at.”

Bwala also criticised former vice president Atiku , who recently secured the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress.

“To Atiku, Wazirin Adamawa, who believes he has the rights to change political parties in search of his ambition and that is ok by him, but the minute those who supported him also pursue their aspirations away from him, he classifies them as lacking character and betrayers (a classic case of slave and slave master),” Bwala wrote.

“Under him no one has the rights to become president until when he resigns from politics.”

He recalled that when Obi left Atiku’s camp, the former vice president labelled Obi “a bad man.”

“The list goes on, and one common denominator is that President Tinubu is more a democrat than them all,” Bwala said.

Bwala accused opposition aspirants of making “noise about our government without offering a clear alternative path.”

“What all these opposition aspirants are doing every day is to simply make noise about our government without offering a clear alternative path. Taking advantage of any misfortune that happens to Nigerians as talking points, calling us with all sorts of names without making a good case for their aspirations. Talk is cheap.” he said.
