Nigerian Activist Aisha Yesufu has withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Friday, Yesufu disclosed that the party had decided not to conduct primary elections for the FCT senatorial seat, effectively ending her ambition.

She, however, noted that the party would proceed with primaries for House of Representatives

“Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It, however, intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives! Go ahead and make your choice known!” she said.

The activist urged her supporters to remain calm and focus on the broader political objective ahead of the 2027 presidential election, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future.

“I urge each and everyone of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK!” she said.

“I appreciate all your support, dedication and commitment towards #AishaForSenate project.”

Yesufu also appreciated supporters for their commitment to her senate project and said she would continue engaging residents across the six area councils of the FCT as part of efforts to promote a better capital city.

“In the coming week I will be returning back to all the 6 Area Councils God willing to appreciate them for the warm welcome and continue to forge ahead for a #BetterFCT.”

Yesufu had declared interest in the FCT Senate seat on May 6 after defecting from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, saying her decision was influenced by the leadership experience she gained in her former party.

Her withdrawal followed speculation that the party had resolved to hand the FCT senatorial ticket to another aspirant, Amanda Pam, who was already a member of the party before Yesufu joined.
