Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress vice presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has denied allegations that he is mobilising support for a nationwide protest over security challenges, describing the claim as false.
The denial followed a viral social media message alleging that Kwankwaso had been reaching out to youth leaders to organise a protest modelled after the #EndSARS movement.
“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” Kwankwaso said in a press statement.
“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges.”
Kwankwaso, who is running as vice presidential candidate alongside presidential candidate Peter Obi, said the NDC believes in democratic processes rather than street protests.
“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means.”
He urged the public to disregard the false message and ignore those spreading disinformation.

The viral message, which circulated widely on social media platforms, particularly on WhatsApp, had claimed that “Kwankwaso has already made calls to some social media youth leaders” and that the proposed protest was “modeled after the #EndSARS movement.”

The dismissal comes as Nigeria faces mounting security challenges, including mass abductions, banditry and terrorist attacks. NDC is one of several opposition parties positioning itself to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The party has adopted Peter Obi as its presidential candidate with Kwankwaso as his running mate.
