China has pledged support for African countries affected by the latest Ebola outbreak, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China is ready to assist countries battling the disease.
Lin said China and Africa have a long history of supporting each other during difficult times and expressed concern over the current Ebola outbreak in the DRC. He also recalled that China provided significant assistance to West African countries during the 2015 Ebola outbreak and is prepared to do the same again.
“To that end, the Chinese government has decided to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the DRC and in particular, send medical expert teams for medical services and assistance,” Lin said.

According to him, China has also been working with the African Union Commission on disease prevention and control efforts to strengthen African countries’ ability to respond to outbreaks. Lin stated that Chinese medical teams are already working alongside local health workers in affected areas.
“As we speak, Chinese medical teams are on the ground fighting the disease shoulder to shoulder with African people,” he said.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that China will continue to work closely with the DRC and other African nations to help contain the outbreak. Lin also urged the international community to provide more support to help affected countries control the Ebola outbreak as quickly as possible.
