The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has criticised some social media content creators, accusing them of exploiting tragic incidents for online attention.
Obasa made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing teachers who staged a protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
He specifically faulted content creators who, he said, exploit security crises and tragedies to gain followers on social media.
“You cannot make a profit out of some people’s misfortune,” Obasa said.

Obasa said while insecurity remains a serious concern, Nigerians must focus on finding lasting solutions rather than sensationalising tragic events online. He noted that all stakeholders, including citizens, must work together to address the country’s security challenges.
The Lagos Speaker also assured the protesters that government authorities were actively engaging security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.
The protest, organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), was part of a nationwide demonstration calling for improved security in schools following a rise in kidnappings targeting students and education workers.
Hundreds of teachers marched in Lagos, demanding urgent action to make schools across the country safer. The NUT has said it will review the outcome of the nationwide rallies before deciding its next line of action.
