Police in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested a wanted suspected supplier of logistics and ammunition to bandits, kidnappers and terrorists, the FCT Commissioner of police announced on Friday.
Ahmed Sanusi told a news conference in Abuja that the suspect had been on the command’s wanted list since 2023.
Sanusi said operatives tracked and arrested the suspect on Tuesday while he travelled along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
Police recovered 81 rounds of 7.62mm live AK-47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition for a General Purpose Machine Gun from the suspect during the operation, Sanusi said.
The commissioner described the arrest as a strategic, intelligence-led operation by the command’s operatives.
The arrest of the suspect, who had also appeared on the wanted list of other security agencies in several North Central states, led to the arrest of his sister, Sanusi said.
“The arrested sister of the suspect happened to be the wife of another wanted bandit terrorising Kaduna and Niger States and currently at large,” he said.
“She has also been involved in the supply of ammunition to her brother for onwards sale to terrorists and bandits.”
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a network of logistics and ammunition suppliers supporting bandit and terrorist groups operating in Kaduna, Niger, and border communities in the FCT, Sanusi added.
Sanusi also disclosed that operatives of the command had arrested two suspects over “one chance” robbery – a form of robbery where criminals posing as commercial drivers rob passengers.

He said operatives attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit made the arrest during a routine anti-crime patrol along Giri-Lugbe Road on May 15.
The operatives observed a young lady crying for help, Sanusi said.
“Upon inquiry, she informed the operatives that she had just been robbed by suspected ‘one chance’ operators who dispossessed her of her valuables before abandoning her.”
The team launched a hot pursuit and intercepted a blue Volkswagen Golf carrying the two suspects.
During a search of the vehicle, police recovered one laptop, one iPhone, one laptop charger, two knives and scissors, the CP said.
Sanusi pledged the command’s commitment to proactive policing and ensuring the safety and security of FCT residents.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
