The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has rescued former Minister of Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu’s sister, Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, during a late-night operation carried out on Saturday.

According to Channels TV, police sources said the victims were rescued alive around 7:30 pm following a tactical operation that led to a gun battle with their abductors. Two suspected gunmen were killed during the exchange of gunfire, while two firearms were recovered from the criminal gang.

John-Paul, who is the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons were kidnapped on June 3, while she was taking the children to school in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Police sources revealed that intelligence gathering and sustained pressure on the kidnappers helped security operatives track the gang and force a confrontation that eventually led to the victims’ rescue. The source said security operatives are still searching nearby areas for other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.

“Security operatives are still combing nearby areas for fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate, some of whom are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds,” the source said.

The family had earlier confirmed the abduction in a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro.

“We are deeply distressed by this unfortunate incident but remain hopeful that the victims will be rescued safely. We appeal to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and support ongoing efforts with prayers,” the statement said.

John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Reports indicate that she relocated to Ibadan with her children after retiring voluntarily from First Bank Pension Custodian in 2025.

The rescue comes during growing concerns over insecurity in Oyo State and other parts of the country. The incident occurred just weeks after more than 40 students and teachers were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, prompting public outrage and protests.

Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the operation, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspects. Recall that their abduction came weeks after over 40 students and teachers were abducted in the Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, a development that has sparked outrage and protests across the country.
