Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday hit back at critics who claim nothing is happening under the current administration, asking whether ongoing projects across Abuja were being executed in heaven or on earth.

Wike spoke during the official commissioning of two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II Junction as part of the FCT’s 31-day commissioning events.

“I just wonder when people say nothing is happening, nothing is happening, are we doing all these things in heaven or on earth here where people are living?” Wike said.

The minister noted that the area hosts the Apo Mechanic Village, where successive governments had made empty promises to relocate the informal sector to a more comfortable area to decongest the road.

“So many governments have made promise to the informal sector that they will move them out to a more comfortable area in order to decongest this road. All those have been empty promises,” Wike said.

He added that those who conduct business in the area would confirm that President Bola Tinubu had fulfilled his promise.

Wike said he had inspected the road at least 10 times to verify whether the contractor would keep to its promises.

“I have come to this road inspection at least not less than 10 times to see whether actually they will keep to the promise that they have made. And indeed, they kept to the promise,” he said, thanking CGC Nigeria Ltd.

“This means that nothing is impossible if we are determined and committed to achieve results.”

Wike praised the president for continuing projects initiated by previous administrations.

“If we want to be conservative, at least 80 percent of projects that we have completed are projects initiated by various administrations. That is leadership,” he said.

“Some people would have said, there’s no need for that. Let us start our own. But Mr President understands.”

He expressed confidence that the people of Abuja would thank the president for fulfilling his promises.

“I have no doubt that one good turn deserves another. And I know the people of Abuja will in their own time reciprocate and tell Mr President, thank you for fulfilling the promises you have made to them,” he said.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also attended the event.
