Tunisia has dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi and appointed Frenchman Hervé Renard as his replacement following their 5-1 World Cup defeat to Sweden, the country’s football federation announced on Monday.
The announcement was made on national television, confirming that Renard will take charge of the national team until the end of the 2026 World Cup cycle.
The Tunisian Football Federation said its president, Moez Nassari, had reached an agreement with the French coach to assume immediate responsibility for the team.

“The president of the Tunisian Football Federation, Moez Nassari, announced that an official agreement had been reached with French coach Herve Renard for him to take charge of the national football team until the end of the 2026 World Cup,” the Tunisian public broadcaster announced.
Renard, who previously guided Saudi Arabia to a shock win over eventual champions Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, most recently managed the France women’s national team.
Lamouchi, a former France international, had only been appointed Tunisia coach in January before being relieved of his duties following the heavy defeat.
The 5-1 loss to Sweden has left Tunisia with a difficult path to the knockout stage as they prepare for their next Group F fixture against Japan on Saturday.
