Voters in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, were still awaiting the arrival of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials more than 30 minutes after accreditation and voting were scheduled to begin on Saturday.

Accreditation and voting were supposed to commence by 8:30 a.m. in line with the Electoral Act, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

However, at Ward 7, polling units 2, 3 and 4 at Oke Ila, voters were still waiting for INEC officials and party agents to arrive as of 9:00 a.m.

At Ward 6, polling units 4, 5, 6 and 7 at Oke-Iyinmi, voters were also waiting for officials to arrive.

Similarly, at Ward 8, polling units 2, 3, 4 and 5 at Dalimore, voters were seen in their numbers awaiting the arrival of electoral officials.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Road Safety Corps were present to maintain order.

The situation was different at Ikogosi-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area, where impressive turnout and early accreditation were recorded.

At Polling Unit 003, Ward 6 Ikogosi-Ekiti, electoral officials commenced accreditation and voting as early as 8:10 a.m.

Party agents from the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and other parties, as well as accredited observers, were sighted monitoring the exercise.

Voting commenced at exactly 8:00 a.m. at Okelele Ward 6, Unit 003 in Ikogosi-Ekiti.

Some voters who spoke with NAN commended the timely arrival of INEC officials and the orderly conduct of the exercise.

There was also presence of elderly persons and people living with disabilities at the polling stations.

Security personnel were deployed to polling units and strategic locations across the council area as early as 7:00 a.m., with vehicular movement largely restricted in compliance with election security arrangements.
