Heavy security personnel from the Nigerian Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were deployed across Ikere-Ekiti on Saturday following the commencement of the Ekiti governorship election.
Ikere-Ekiti is the community of the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Mrs Monisade Afuye, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Both entry and exit points to the community were barricaded by police personnel to ensure compliance with movement restrictions during the election, NAN reported.

Vehicles and motorcycles were stopped from advancing, with residents only allowed to move on foot, while shops and restaurants remained closed.
However, accredited journalists covering the election were allowed to proceed with their vehicles bearing INEC stickers.
The security deployment aims to ensure a peaceful electoral process in the state.
