The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dare Bejide, has alleged that a presidential aide brought fake policemen to his polling unit and assaulted him and his driver during Saturday’s governorship election.

Bejide spoke to journalists surrounded by a crowd of security personnel and onlookers after voting at his polling unit.

“There were allegations that this lady was distributing money, and I confronted her. She called her boss. The council chairman came here and started abusing me,” Bejide said.

“This is my polling booth. The chairman is from a different polling booth.”

Bejide also alleged that a presidential aide came to the polling unit with “fake policemen” and assaulted him.

“One SA to the president also came here with fake police; he pushed me; he was confronting me; he beat my driver to stupor,” Bejide said.

According to Bejide, his driver was taken to hospital and is “full of blood.”

The ADC candidate added that he had alerted police officers at the polling unit to the alleged distribution of money before the confrontation escalated.

The confrontation occurred as voters turned out across Ekiti State’s 2,445 polling units for the governorship election, with incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking re-election against challengers including Bejide and others.
