Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked the United States on Thursday for licences to manufacture Patriot air defence missiles following a massive Russian barrage on Kyiv that killed at least 13 people.
Zelensky stated on Facebook that air defence supplies remain an absolute and critical priority for Ukraine.
He urged the US government to approve the production licences and expand military cooperation to help the country safeguard its airspace.

The urgent appeal follows years of relentless aerial bombardment since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Russia regularly targets Ukrainian cities, grid infrastructure, and civilian centres with waves of drones and cruise missiles.
To counter these attacks, Ukraine relies heavily on Western-supplied air defence networks, particularly the highly effective American-made Patriot system, to intercept incoming strikes.
