Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has resigned as Clacton MP, paving the way for a by-election, saying he will put his political future in voters’ hands.

Farage announced on Tuesday that he is stepping down from the seat but plans to contest the upcoming by-election.

Presenting the move as a challenge to his critics, Farage said the election would be a “people versus the establishment” contest.

He argued that voters in Clacton should determine whether he deserves to remain in Parliament, rather than political opponents.

The resignation comes as Farage faces investigations linked to high-value financial donations, which he insists were lawful.

He maintained that he has committed no wrongdoing, saying he has neither broken the law nor misused public funds.

The Reform UK leader’s decision now sets the stage for another contest in Clacton, where he will seek a new mandate from voters.
