Colombia President-elect to Cut Ties With Cuba, Nicaragua

Colombia’s president-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, has announced that his administration will sever diplomatic relations with Cuba and Nicaragua when he assumes office on August 7.

In a statement posted on social media on Sunday, the hard-right leader said his government would have no diplomatic ties with what he described as “tyrannies.”

“There will be no ties with tyrannies in my government,” he declared.

De la Espriella also announced plans to close 15 Colombian consulates and 14 embassies as part of a broader overhaul of the country’s diplomatic missions.

The decision marks a significant shift in Colombia’s foreign policy and signals a tougher stance toward the leftist governments of Cuba and Nicaragua.
