The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned Nigerians at home and abroad, as well as foreign nationals, against using unauthorised platforms for passport and visa payments.
It said it has not partnered with any religious organisation, private entity or individual to receive payments on its behalf.
The warning was issued via the NIS’s official social media platforms on Wednesday.
The service said the only authorised platform for passport payments is its official portal, while separate official links existed for visa applications at Nigerian embassies and for electronic visa applications.
“Nigerians applying for passports, whether residing in the country or abroad, are advised to make payments only through the official passport portal,” the NIS said.
It added that foreigners seeking visas to Nigeria should use the designated official platforms for visa applications at Nigerian embassies or for electronic visa applications.
The NIS has warned members of the public to be vigilant and not patronise unauthorised persons or platforms to avoid falling victim to fraud and other related crimes.
It also appealed to applicants who need clarifications, assistance or wish to lodge complaints concerning passport or visa applications to contact its verified communication channels for prompt response and support.
The service listed its official X handle, Facebook and Instagram pages and designated WhatsApp lines for enquiries and assistance as its verified communication channels.
NIS has assured the public of its commitment to transparent and efficient service delivery and has urged the people to always verify information relating to immigration services through its official platforms.
