The Yobe State Police Command recorded 407 criminal cases, including murder, rape, kidnapping and armed robbery, between January and June 2026.
Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani-Jibrin disclosed this while briefing journalists during the command’s mid-year security review and the parade of suspects arrested for various offences.
According to the police commissioner, the cases include 31 murders, 35 rape cases, eight kidnappings, 11 armed robbery cases and 322 other criminal offences.
“From January 2026 to June 2026, the command recorded a total of 407 criminal cases, comprising 31 murder cases, 35 rape cases, eight kidnapping cases, 11 armed robbery cases and 322 other offences,” he said.
Kanfani-Jibrin said 152 of the cases resulted in convictions, while 42 ended in acquittals.
He added that 127 cases are still before the courts, 69 remain under investigation, and 17 case files are awaiting legal advice.
The police commissioner also noted major successes recorded by the command during the period, including raids on criminal hideouts in Jakusko Local Government Area, the arrest of suspected drug traffickers, the seizure of illegal drugs in Potiskum, the dismantling of a fraud syndicate, and the protection of critical infrastructure.
He said the command also made progress in investigating culpable homicide cases and protecting children and other vulnerable groups.
Kanfani-Jibrin said the achievements reflect the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, quick response to crime, and collaboration with communities and other security agencies.
Responding to questions from journalists, the commissioner blamed the growing involvement of young people in crime partly on parental neglect.
He said some parents fail to properly care for their children, leaving them exposed to criminal activities.
Kanfani-Jibrin also raised concerns over the rising abuse of illicit drugs, describing it as one of the major factors driving crime across Yobe State.
