Police Invite VeryDarkMan Over AIG Probe

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to due process and institutional discipline on Tuesday following public controversy involving social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police Moshood Jimoh.

Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu confirmed that the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) invited AIG Jimoh for questioning regarding public allegations made against him.

Concurrently, the FCID issued a formal invitation to Otse on July 30, 2026, directing him to present evidence supporting his claims.

The Police Force emphasised that the underlying criminal case remains before a competent court following formal legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Officials stated that the judiciary holds sole authority over the matter and warned against public commentary attempting to shape judicial outcomes.

While affirming citizens’ rights to freedom of expression, the Force warned that public campaigns do not justify defamation.

Authorities urged Otse to honour the FCID invitation, pledging that any officer found guilty of misconduct will face legal sanctions under the Police Act 2020.
