Kuwait Shuts Iranian School After War Tensions

Kuwait has ordered the closure of its only Iranian school following heightened tensions during the recent Middle East conflict, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The country’s Education Ministry revoked the school’s operating licence and suspended new admissions for the upcoming academic year.

A source at the ministry told AFP that the decision did not include a specific reason for the closure, which came after Kuwait was among Gulf countries affected by Iranian attacks during the conflict.

“The Minister of Education issued a decision to revoke the educational license of the private Iranian school and close it down,” the ministry said in a statement seen by AFP.

The ministry also directed parents to move their children to other schools after halting new enrolment.

Kuwait was among several Gulf states hosting US forces that came under attack from Iran during the war, with tensions continuing until a ceasefire was announced in June.

The closure affects the country’s only Iranian school, which served Iranian families living in Kuwait.
