Brighton launched their Premier League campaign in style, overpowering a 10-man Aston Villa 4-0 at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.
The Seagulls established complete control early, scoring four goals in the first half to secure a resounding victory in front of their home supporters.
Maxim de Cuyper initiated the scoring in the eighth minute, driving a shot off the post that deflected into the net off Villa defender Victor Lindelof for an own goal.
De Cuyper doubled Brighton’s advantage 10 minutes later, turning in a precise cutback from Georginio Rutter.
Jack Hinshelwood then extended the lead with a quickfire double, tapping in a cross from Diego Gomez before Yasin Ayari set him up for a second strike just a minute later.

Aston Villa’s afternoon went from bad to worse shortly before halftime, as refereeing decisions compounded their on-field struggles.
Summer signee Joao Gomes received a straight red card following a VAR review for kicking out at Rutter, capping off a disastrous 40-minute debut.
Unai Emery’s side managed to stem the flow of goals in a quieter second half, but Brighton had already sealed the win during their explosive opening display.
