The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has secured a High Court judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and use the party’s modified digital logo.
NDC Chairman, Seriake Dickson, announced that the Abuja court, presided over by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik, granted the party’s request to compel INEC to upload and utilise the logo contained in the party’s constitution.
Dickson said the party had earlier submitted the modified logo to INEC after its first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, adding that the electoral body initially uploaded it before later reverting to the association’s original logo without explanation.
“After giving INEC sufficient time to correct the situation without any action taken, we were compelled to go to court,” Dickson said.
He commended the judiciary for what he described as a timely intervention, saying the ruling had affirmed the party’s position and protected due process.
The NDC chairman directed party candidates and members to immediately adopt the approved logo for all campaign materials, including posters, banners and other publicity items. Dickson also moved to reassure members over the dispute, saying there was no reason for concern.
“I want to assure everyone that the party has experienced and strategic leaders who understand what we are doing. Therefore, nobody should panic,” he said.
While acknowledging that some candidates may have already produced materials featuring the previous logo, he said the party would work to ensure a smooth transition.
The chairman described the dispute as part of the administrative challenges the party has faced but insisted that the NDC would continue to defend its interests through democratic means.
He added that the party would launch further publicity efforts to guide members and inform voters about the approved logo as preparations for future political activities continue.
