The Zamfara State Police Command has repelled an attempted bandit attack on Bukuyum town in Bukuyum Local Government Area, following a gun battle that reportedly left more than 30 suspected bandits dead.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, the clearance operation began on October 28 after armed bandits attempted to attack Bukuyum town. The Command also said security operatives discovered more than 30 bodies, believed to be those of neutralised bandits, in nearby farmlands after the confrontation.

Police operatives, working with local civil security groups, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle and prevented them from entering the community. The Command said the discovery of more than 30 suspected bandit bodies suggested that the attackers suffered heavy casualties during the encounter.
However, it stressed that the actual death toll had not been confirmed. It explained that bandits often remove their injured and dead members from battle sites.
The police added that the operation prevented possible loss of life, destruction of property and further displacement of residents. It also said preliminary security assessments suggested that continued pressure from security operatives had forced some of the remaining bandits to flee the state.
The Command pledged to sustain the clearance operations with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders. It said the goal was to remove criminal groups from the area and restore public confidence. It also assured residents that it remained committed to protecting communities across Zamfara State.
