Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has urged Danish investors and businesses to explore opportunities in the country’s marine and blue economy.
The minister wooed Danish investors with attractive incentives and a business environment that fosters greater private-sector participation.
During discussions with Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Martin Lidegaard, and notable figures in the Danish maritime sector, Oyetola said that Nigeria has progressed beyond setting up the sector’s institutional framework.
According to him, the West African country is now focusing on creating viable projects and attracting investment.
“Nigeria has moved beyond building the institutional framework for the sector. We are now focused on developing bankable projects, mobilising investment, improving performance and creating quality jobs,” he said.
Oyetola noted that Nigeria’s maritime sector presents opportunities across ports and logistics, shipbuilding, maritime services, digital technology, fisheries, green shipping, renewable energy, marine infrastructure and multimodal connectivity.

“From ports and logistics to shipbuilding, maritime services, digital technology, fisheries, green shipping, renewable energy, marine infrastructure and multimodal connectivity, the opportunities are vast,” Oyetola said.
He said Nigeria’s extensive coastline, inland waterways and strategic position in West and Central Africa, combined with the size of its economy, made the country an attractive destination for long-term maritime investment.
The Nigerian minister invited Danish businesses and investors to bring capital, technology, expertise and innovation to Nigeria’s maritime transformation.
“We welcome Danish businesses and investors ready to bring capital, technology, expertise and innovation to Nigeria’s maritime transformation,” he said.
He said Nigeria’s objective is to turn broad commitments into practical partnerships and projects that generate measurable economic benefits for both countries.
“Our goal is to move from broad commitments to practical partnerships and bankable projects that deliver measurable economic value for both Nigeria and Denmark,” Oyetola said.
He also said the engagements in Copenhagen were part of efforts to strengthen international partnerships and unlock investment opportunities across Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sectors.
In Copenhagen, I engaged Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Martin Lidegaard, and key players in the Danish maritime sector on opportunities to deepen investment, technology transfer, skills development and sustainable growth.
