President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the full redemption of the Nigerian Government’s rewards promised to Nigeria’s D’Tigress.
Tinubu made this known in a statement posted on his X account, saying the payments completed the team’s reward package.
He said each D’Tigress player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official received the equivalent of $50,000.
The package also includes national honours and three-bedroom houses in Abuja for the players and officials.
Tinubu said this was the first time a Nigerian Government had fully fulfilled presidential sporting rewards on this scale within one year.
He explained that the implementation took time because the government had to follow legally required processes and ensure every commitment was properly fulfilled.
“We had to follow the processes required by law and ensure that every commitment was properly implemented. That took time, but a promise made must be a promise kept,” Tinubu said.
The President also disclosed that the government was concluding the outstanding cash rewards promised to the Super Falcons.
He said the Super Falcons players and officials had already received title documents for their house allocations and National Honours certificates.
Tinubu added that the promise of houses and national honours made to the Super Eagles players had also been fulfilled.
“Our athletes who bring honour to Nigeria deserve more than applause. They deserve a country that keeps its word,” he said.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to rewarding Nigerian athletes who achieve success for the country.
“My promise to every Nigerian athlete is make NIGERIA proud, and come back to a grateful Nation,” Tinubu said.
He congratulated the athletes, adding: “Nigeria is proud of you.”
