Unity Colleges Confirm September Resumption

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that all Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria will resume academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026, as scheduled.

The ministry said it had made arrangements to support a safe and orderly start to the new academic session, assuring students, parents, guardians, and other stakeholders of a smooth resumption.

In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folashade, on the ministry’s X(formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remained a priority.

Alausa said relevant security agencies had been informed of the resumption plans and were maintaining heightened vigilance around the colleges and their immediate environments.

“The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Nigerian Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” Alausa said.

He said the coordinated security measures were intended to protect students, staff and school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.

The minister urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and complete preparations for their children and wards to return to their respective colleges on Monday.

He also directed school authorities to coordinate closely with security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure an orderly and secure resumption.

Alausa called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together to maintain a peaceful and supportive school environment.

The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and work with relevant authorities to take any necessary measures to ensure the safe continuation of academic activities across the Federal Unity Colleges.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system and giving children access to quality education in a safe, conducive environment.

According to the ministry, the commitment aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which identifies education and human capital development as essential to sustainable growth and national development.
