Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 31 kidnapped victims and killed two terrorists in Katsina and Kebbi states.
The Joint Task Force North-West said it conducted the operations on Monday and Tuesday.
The Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
In Katsina, troops rescued 10 victims after pursuing terrorists who abducted civilians from Unguwan Daudu and Unguwan Chibauna communities.
The victims comprised three males and seven females, including an infant.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to flee.
In Kebbi, troops also rescued 21 victims abducted from Fafala Village in Kangiwa Local Government Area.
The troops engaged the terrorists during a fighting patrol around Fafala and Dandikwa.
After a heavy exchange of fire, the attackers fled, allowing troops to rescue the victims and reunite them with their families.
Meanwhile, troops recorded another success in Katsina on September 15.
They acted on intelligence about plans to attack communities in Matazu and Kankara local government areas.
The troops raided a suspected hideout and killed two terrorists during the operation.
“One of the terrorists neutralised was Abbah Alhassan, a known terrorist kingpin,” Danja stated.
Other terrorists reportedly fled into the surrounding bush.
Troops recovered 10 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, a cutlass, camouflage clothing and Indian hemp from the hideout.
The military also arrested two suspected terrorists in the Yantumaki area of Dan Musa Local Government Area.
Danja said preliminary interrogation showed that the suspects were linked to a terrorist kingpin known as Mannori.
The suspects remain in military custody and will undergo further investigation.
The JTF said the operations were part of efforts to rescue victims, disrupt terrorist networks and restrict their movement across the North-West.
It also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
