Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old security guard, Oladapo Felix, for allegedly shooting a resident of Zion Estate, Yakoya Area of Elewuro, Akobo, Ibadan.
The Command said four locally made single-barrel guns and a machete were recovered from the suspect’s duty post.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
The victim, identified as Bolaji Oladipupo, reportedly came out of his residence to pump water after hearing a siren around the house.
Police said Oladipupo went outside to establish the source of the sound but was confronted by the security guard.
The victim reportedly identified himself as a resident of the house but was subsequently shot by the guard.
Operatives from the Akobo Police Division responded to the report and arrested Felix, who is also a resident of Zion Estate.
“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having shot at the victim,” the statement said.
A search of his duty post led to the recovery of two serviceable locally made single-barrel guns, two unserviceable locally made single-barrel guns and a machete.
The Police said the recovered weapons had been secured as exhibits, while the victim was receiving medical treatment and responding to treatment.
Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what happened immediately before the incident and the circumstances that led to the use of the firearm.
The investigation will also determine how the recovered firearms came to be in the suspect’s possession.
The Command urged private security guards to remain professional, disciplined and restrained while carrying out their duties.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed a thorough investigation into the incident and ordered that appropriate action be taken in accordance with the law.
