The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC), Peter Obi, has mourned the death of veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs, describing him as a symbol of excellence in the country’s creative industry.
Obi expressed his condolences in a tribute posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, a day after Jacobs’ family announced the actor’s death.
The former Anambra State governor praised Jacobs’ contribution to Nigeria’s film and creative sector, noting that his career spanned several decades in both Britain and Nigeria.
Obi said Jacobs’ death reminded people of life’s transience and the need to make meaningful contributions to society through their talents and responsibilities.
Obi also said Jacobs’ life demonstrated the importance of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft.
He urged people to ensure that their abilities and expertise benefit society, regardless of the responsibilities entrusted to them.
“Olu Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit. He exemplified this through his remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, in a career spanning several decades across both Britain and Nigeria.
“His passing is once again a reminder to all of us that our time here is limited. Whatever responsibility we are entrusted with, and whatever area we are called to contribute to society, we must give it our very best and ensure that society benefits from our genius, talent and competence,” Obi stated.
The former governor extended his condolences to Jacobs’ family, friends, colleagues and the wider Nigerian creative community.
He also prayed for eternal rest for the late actor and strength for his loved ones and others affected by his death.
