Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has removed the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office with immediate effect.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, announced the decision in a statement issued on Saturday.

Uzor said Nwifuru had directed Mbam to leave office and hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon . Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI GGCEHF has directed the immediate removal from office the Honourable Commissioner for Works Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam,” the statement read.

The former commissioner was also instructed to transfer his responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works.

The statement did not disclose the reason for Mbam’s removal.

The governor, however, assured residents that his administration remained committed to effective governance and improving public infrastructure.

Mbam had previously faced disciplinary action from the governor.

In March 2026, Nwifuru indefinitely suspended him over alleged dereliction of duty, alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession for Development, Ogbonnaya Abara. The two officials were later recalled in May. 

The latest statement did not provide any reason for Mbam’s removal from office.
