Tinubu Extends Vacation, Returns Weekend

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has extended his working vacation by a few days and will return to Nigeria this weekend.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed the development in a statement on Monday.

Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London before travelling to Paris, France, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bollore.

Despite being away, Tinubu has continued to direct government affairs from abroad.

He recently ordered an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima is representing Tinubu at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the global meeting.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has also continued to represent the President at some official functions.

On the political front, Presidential Campaign Council Director-General Abubakar Yari has led party leaders in consultations with prominent traditional rulers.

The Presidency also dismissed claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a US-based lobbying firm over Tinubu’s absence from the UN General Assembly.

It described the claims as baseless and irresponsible.
