UK to Lead Global AI Safety at G20

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly that the UK will place artificial intelligence at the centre of its G20 presidency in 2027.

Burnham outlined plans for member nations to establish a unified set of global principles and standards focused on transparency, safety, and systemic preparedness as AI technologies rapidly advance.

In addition to the G20 initiative, Burnham unveiled a new bilateral AI defence partnership with the United States.

The joint alliance specifically aims to deploy advanced AI capabilities to protect critical national infrastructure in both countries from sophisticated cyberattacks and emerging security threats.
