Oil prices slipped on Wednesday after President Donald Trump announced that US and Iranian officials held “very good” and “very productive” talks at the United Nations.
International benchmark Brent crude and US West Texas Intermediate dropped to $98.91 and $89.93 per barrel, falling below the $100 threshold despite ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Analysts noted that the three-hour meeting shifted market focus toward diplomacy, even as regional tensions and shipping blockades persist.
Meanwhile, Asian stock markets showed mixed results amid renewed investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence, driven by cheap new AI model releases from Anthropic and OpenAI.

Global markets are also eyeing an upcoming summit between Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where trade tariffs, Middle East diplomacy, and AI competition are expected to dominate discussions.
