The Nsokpo Dynamic Association, a group of young professionals from the Nsokpo Community in the Ogbaku, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, has appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma to urgently intervene in the worsening insecurity and deteriorating condition of major roads in the community.
In a statement signed by its President, Onyejiaka Mark, and Secretary General, Chukwudi Ohiri, on Tuesday, September 22, the association said Nsokpo had experienced repeated kidnappings and armed attacks in recent months, allegedly involving suspected herdsmen and criminal elements operating from surrounding bushland.
The association described the situation as “a community under siege”, saying farmers were afraid to access their farmlands, traders were closing their shops before dusk, while parents were keeping their children indoors long before nightfall.
With the situation allegedly exceeding what local efforts can contain, the association called for “sustained security patrols” involving a day-and-night presence to deter further attacks.
It also demanded “a coordinated combing operation of the Nwaogwugwu land and bush axis between Ogbaku and Umunoha, and the bushes bordering Nsokpo.”
Support for Community Policing
The group further requested “support for community policing, including resources for local vigilante groups working alongside formal security agencies.”
According to the association, Nsokpo’s location along the gateway to Owerri, the state capital, makes its security a strategic priority.
“Securing the community is a strategic priority,” it said, describing Nsokpo as “a buffer that keeps banditry away from the seat of government.”
Beyond insecurity, the group raised concerns over the poor condition of two major roads connecting Nsokpo’s four villages to neighbouring communities and markets.
The roads identified are the Nsokpo–Ifakala to Nwaorieubi Road and the Nsokpo–Lawa–Ohi Road.
The association said both roads had deteriorated to a point where travelling had become “difficult, costly, and dangerous, especially in the rainy season.”
Condition of the Roads
It said the condition of the roads was slowing the movement of farm produce, increasing transportation costs and limiting the community’s access to commercial activities.
The association therefore appealed for “reconstruction of both roads to restore safe, reliable access”, as well as “streetlights at dark, high-risk sections to improve night-time safety.”
“We are requesting basic security measures for the community,” the association said, expressing confidence that the governor’s leadership and cooperation with security agencies could address the situation promptly.

The group also argued that intervention in Nsokpo would provide an opportunity for the state government to demonstrate responsiveness to residents’ concerns.
“Fixing the roads and securing the community would ease daily life for residents while affirming the state government’s commitment to responsive leadership,” it said.
The association said it had delivered two appeal letters to the governor at the Government House, with copies sent to the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner of Police, Director of the DSS in Imo State, Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, Garrison Commander of 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, and Executive Chairman of Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
