The Kremlin has condemned European Union sanctions against Russian commentator Xenia Fedorova, describing the measures as unlawful persecution of a media representative.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticised the sanctions in a briefing on Friday, accusing the EU of pressuring the media.
“This is not the first unlawful sanction of this kind. This is blatant pressure on the media. This is the persecution of a media representative,” Peskov said.

Fedorova was formally expelled from France in August after losing an appeal against a court ruling that ordered her to leave the country over accusations of spreading pro-Kremlin propaganda.
Peskov said the sanctions were part of a broader pattern of measures targeting media figures and described them as unjustified.
Fedorova previously headed the French arm of Russian state broadcaster RT, which was banned in France after Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine in 2022.
She later worked as a commentator for broadcasters within the media group of French billionaire Vincent Bollore, including CNews, which is often compared with Fox News in the United States.
Fedorova has rejected the accusations, describing them as censorship.
