The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed condolences to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the families of victims who died in Monday’s military aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, was operating a routine flight from Benin, Edo State, to Lagos when it disappeared from radar at about 9:13 am.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo said preliminary information indicated that 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board.

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the deaths represented a painful loss for the country.

The party’s National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, said military personnel had made significant sacrifices for Nigeria’s unity and survival, describing their deaths as deeply distressing.

“Our service personnel have given so much for the unity and survival of this country, and news of their deaths is deeply painful,” he said.

Turaki extended the party’s condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and the bereaved families, while praying that similar tragedies would not occur again.

“On behalf of the PDP family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Air Force and the families of the fallen. We pray that such tragedies do not recur.”

The PDP also called for a thorough and transparent investigation to determine what caused the crash and ensure that appropriate lessons are drawn from the incident.

President Bola Tinubu has similarly directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately investigate the cause of the accident and expressed condolences to the families of those on board.
