South African President Cyril Ramaphosa reinstated National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola on Friday, six months after suspending him over allegations of public finance corruption.
Masemola will formally resume leadership of the South African Police Service on Monday, after all criminal charges against him are officially withdrawn.
State prosecutors dropped the charges related to an irregular 228 million rand ($13.85 million) health services contract with Medicare24 after a Pretoria court formally dismissed the case last month.

Masemola, who consistently denied wrongdoing, had faced allegations of breaching procurement rules and financial oversight controls—a scandal that emerged as a primary focus for the ongoing Madlanga Commission investigating syndicate infiltration within South Africa’s justice system.
