Barcelona defenders Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde sustained injuries on Saturday, creating severe defensive setbacks ahead of pivotal clashes against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Both players suffered fitness issues during the club’s 5-2 victory over Real Betis, a win that extended manager Hansi Flick’s perfect La Liga start to nine consecutive matches.

The Spanish champions confirmed that centre-back Garcia faces three to four weeks on the sidelines due to a thigh injury, ruling him out of both crucial fixtures.

Meanwhile, right-back Kounde will miss Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League trip to face PSG after spraining his ankle, though medical staff hope he may recover in time for the El Clasico showdown against Real Madrid on Sunday, October 25.

Paris Saint-Germain face defensive selection problems of their own following their Ligue 1 victory against Strasbourg.

The European champions announced that Portuguese left-back Nuno Mendes picked up a thigh injury during Saturday’s match and will remain sidelined for several weeks, missing Tuesday’s home encounter against Barcelona.
